Borja Sainz spoke on behalf of the National Champions following the defeat at Vila das Aves (3-1)

The trip to Vila das Aves did not go to plan for FC Porto, already crowned National Champions, having been defeated 3-1 by AFS on matchday 33, the penultimate of the League. Noting that “the team played to win, as always”, Borja Sainz acknowledged that “we lacked a bit of sharpness in the attack”, but the truth is that “we are the National Champions and we don’t want this to tarnish our season”. “This result is a shame because we wanted to reach 91 points. It was a team objective,” added the Spanish winger.

Victory was the objective
“The team played to win, as always, but we lacked a bit of sharpness in the attack. The team always wants to win and take all three points.”

Fighting hard wasn’t enough
“We started the second half well and tied, but shortly afterwards we conceded the 2-1. The aim was to take all three points and, as we have done all season, the team fought hard. We are the National Champions and we don’t want this to tarnish our season.”

It is no longer possible to match the league points record
“We go into every game to win and this result is a shame because we wanted to reach 91 points. It was a team objective.”

The assist for Deniz Gül
“The important thing is that it was a goal and I’m happy for him, as he’s been doing a very good job.”
