FC Porto plays tonight (20h15), against Feirense, with the national title assured

Last night’s tie between Sporting and Benfica allowed FC Porto to win the national title, so the blue and whites will be playing as the new champions at Estádio do Dragão against Feirense (20h15, SportTV1), for matchday 33 of Liga NOS. The tickets for the match were sold out in little over four hours and Estádio do Dragão will be full to greet the national champion of 2017/18.

Only someone bitter would question the fairness of the title won by FC Porto, who proved to be the best team of the Championship since the first matchday. At the start of the last match of the season at Estádio do Dragão, FC Porto is the team with the most victories (26), fewer defeats (2) and the best goal average (79 scored, against 17 conceded). The path set by the Dragons so far had several good moments, among which the hard victory against Feirense, in Santa Maria da Feira, for matchday 16 of Liga NOS.

In the first turn of the championship, FC Porto had to overcome the difficulties, as in many other situations, to get the three points at Estádio Marcolino de Castro. Aboubakar gave the advantage to the Dragons (22m), and Luís Rocha tied shortly after, for Feirense (26m), set the 1-1 that went to halftime. In the second-half, Felipe scored the winning goal with a powerful header (76m), minutes before being (unfairly) sent-off by Fábio Veríssimo. One of the most defining images of that match actually went viral, as Brahimi and Marega yelled at the referee together, saying “We are going to win!”, in protest to the disgraceful performance of the team led by Fábio Veríssimo.

History shows that FC Porto is greatly superior to Feirense playing at home, even if the last two matches against the team from Santa Maria da Feira at Estádio do Dragão, both in 2016/17, ended in a tie: 1-1 for the League Cup, and 0-0 for the Championship. But apart from this tie, the Dragons won all the remaining four matches against Feirense at home, for the Portuguese League: 3-1 (1962/63), 6-1 (1977/78), 3-1 (1989/90) and 2-0 (2011/12). Overall, the blue and whites are at six victories and two ties at home, and also lead in terms of goals: 26 scored and only four conceded.

The match opposing FC Porto and Feirense will be previewed in Porto Canal all day, starting at 11h00, and can be followed live on Facebook, Twitter and the official FC Porto app. After the final whistle, the analysis of the match will be made in Porto Canal, and www.fcporto.pt will have the report and statements from the coach and players.
