FC Porto beat Malmö (2-1) and remains in position to qualify directly for the Europa League Round of 16

Returning home and to the Europa League, FC Porto beat Malmö FF (2-1) and is in position to qualify directly to the Round of 16. Thanks to Samu's two goals - who scored for the second consecutive game in the competition and in the season, in addition to reaching 40 goals for the Club - in just six minutes, the Dragons now have 13 points, two less than the leader of the league stage.

With Martim Fernandes, Pablo Rosario and Borja Sainz as the only new additions to the starting eleven, the Dragons took control of the game from the start and the right fullback gave the first warning after just seven minutes, with a shot saved by Robin Olsen, the goalkeeper who would go on to stop a header from Victor Froholdt (14m) and another attempt from Borja Sainz (21m) before entering into a fierce duel with Samu.

In the striker's first attempt - a ‘chip’ in the 23rd minute - the goalkeeper still had the upper hand, but the number 9 would redeem himself just after the half-hour mark with a header in response to a cross from Rodrigo Mora from the left (1-0). And that wasn't all: just six minutes later, Mora combined with Rosario in midfield, passed to Pepê, and the Brazilian international's cross reached Borja, who found his countryman in his favourite spot and gave him the ball to score his second goal (2-0). In stoppage time, the Danish Talent of the Year came within centimetres of celebrating again, as did Borja, who attempted an acrobatic shot but saw the ball go over the bar.

Rodrigo Mora and Samu were replaced by Eustáquio and Deniz Gül in the 57th minute, Alberto Costa and William Gomes formed a duo on the right wing from the 70th minute onwards, and the winger had a shot on goal shortly afterwards, but without the desired accuracy (78m).

Francesco Farioli used up his substitutions with Ángel Alarcón (81m), who saw Olsen work hard to prevent the third goal of the night: first, he showed sharp reflexes to prevent Victor Froholdt from heading into the back of the net, and then he showed his agility to do the same to Deniz Gül. In stoppage time, the Spanish winger tried to increase the lead after an individual play, but the Nordic goalkeeper once again blocked the goal before, in a fortuitous move, Malmö set the score at 2-1.
