Lead of Liga NOS is played at Estádio da Luz: Benfica and FC Porto fight for it at 18h00

Today is classic day, between Benfica and FC Porto. Starting at 18h00 (BTV), Estádio da Luz will be the stage of the duel opposing the first and second teams in Liga NOS, which are separated by only one point at the start of matchday 29, with the team from Lisbon in the lead. History tells us that FC Porto does well in the current version of Estádio da Luz, where the Dragons will play with a clear objective: get the three points and retake the lead of the Championship.

In the 17 matches already played there, for all competitions, FC Porto is at six victories, six ties, and five defeats, with 21 goals scored and 21 conceded. If the focus is on the Championship alone, the blue and whites are at five victories, six ties and only three defeats: FC Porto hasn’t lost at Estádio da Luz since January 12, 2014. The first victory came on October 17, 2004, with McCarthy making the difference with a long distance shot (1-0).

Nearly three years later, in season 2007/08, FC Porto won again by 1-0, this time with Ricardo Quaresma showing his magical skills, first dribbling David Luiz and then shooting in front of Quim. One of the most memorable victories for FC Porto in Luz was achieved on April 3, 2011: the 2-1 at the end of the match, with an own goal for Roberto and a penalty for Hulk, meant the national title. As is known, the first celebrations of that title were made in the dark and with the sprinklers on.

In the following season (2011/12), which would end with FC Porto as champions again, the blue and whites again won at Estádio da Luz: 3-2, with Hulk, James Rodríguez and Maicon countering the two goals scored by Cardozo. The most recent victory came little over two years ago and the goals came from two players that might be in the team led by Sérgio Conceição this Sunday: Herrera and Aboubakar made it 2-1 on February 12, 2016.

Another player who knows how to score at Estádio da Luz with the blue and white jersey is Maxi Pereira. The Uruguayan fullback, who left the reds for the blue and whites in the summer of 2015, scored in the 1-1 tie conceded last season. The match opposing Benfica and FC Porto will be previewed in Porto Canal all day, and can be followed live on Facebook, Twitter, and the official FC Porto app. After the final whistle, the analysis of the match will be made in Porto Canal, and www.fcporto.pt will have the report and statements from the coach and players.
