Matchday 3 of Group D of the Youth League ended with a defeat for the Dragons
The FC Porto Under19 team didn’t have a good afternoon in the trip to Moscow, for matchday 3 of Group D of the Youth League Lokomotiv won 2-1 and took the lead of the group, with seven points, whereas the Dragons are at four, in the second place.
The young Dragons were better throughout the first-half, and were able to react to the goal scored by Ruslan Kul (13m), who did the best to escape the central defenders and get to a cross coming from the left. FC Porto remained calm and created enough opportunities to achieve the turnaround before the break.
On minute 19, Romário Baró hit the post from a header, when Fábio Silva had already forced the Russian goalkeeper to a tight save. On the other hand, Diogo Costa also stopped a dangerous play from the home team. It would be Fábio Silva getting the tie, following a corner-kick, benefiting from a deflection on Levi Faustino to score on the far post (34m). Shortly after that, Rodrigo Valente headed slightly over the top bar.
Lokomotiv retained the tie and made the best of a mistake made by Diogo Costa and scored the second goal, after a free-kick taken by Aleksei Mironov (61m). And after that, misfortune struck again, with Fábio Vieira being shown two yellow cards in a short time, and was sent-off right after the 2-1 (62m).
Despite being outnumbered, FC Porto went looking for a positive result and deserved more. On minute 76, Rodrigo Valente was again in the area with danger, heading the ball slightly outside the post. The final pressure of the Dragons wasn’t successful.
For matchday 4 of Group D of the Youth League, the Dragons will face Lokomotiv Moscow at home. The match is scheduled for November 6 (14h00), at the Centro de Treinos e Formação Desportiva PortoGaia, in Olival.
