Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa believes this will not be the last contract of the goalkeeper

This Wednesday, Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa and Iker Casillas were on the pitch of Estádio do Dragão to announce the contract renewal of the goalkeeper for another season, with the option for another one. The Spanish international has been at FC Porto since 2015.

The chairman of the blue and whites praised Casillas, talked of the great goalkeepers that played for FC Porto and revealed he is confident that this will not be the last contract the goalkeeper signed.

Two names linked
“Iker Casillas is a world star and now he is a FC Porto star. Today, the name Casillas is linked to FC Porto and the name FC Porto is linked to Casillas.”

Convinced this will not be the last contract
“We renewed for a year, with another one as option, depending on his desire, on his presence in front of goal. I am convinced, and I already told him this, that this will not be the last contract he signs with us. It just depends on his will and we will make it happen. I am happy to know that you love this club, the city of Porto, the city that represents the North and that represents the country in football.”

The prediction for a long link from day one
“If I didn’t believe in this, Casillas wouldn’t have come. If he came just to sign and then leave, he would add nothing, to us or to him. I was sure, from the first day we sat down to talk, that this would happen.”

Past, present and future in the FC Porto goal
“FC Porto, ever since I started watching football, when the great Frederico Barrigana still played, always had great goalkeepers. There was Barrigana, Rui, Américo, Fonseca, Mlynarczyk, Vítor Baía. Casillas is in line with the best goalkeepers FC Porto always had. Before, we had Siska and Soares dos Reis. We always had good goalkeepers. Casillas represents the continuity and we have youngsters that give us the guaranteed that we will keep having excellent goalkeepers, such as Diogo Costa.”

Casillas always showed desire to continue
“If Iker didn’t want to continue, I would have to give him not a Golden Dragon, but an Oscar, as he would be a great actor. He always showed he loves the club, he loves the city, this people, and that he identifies with the club. At FC Porto, he was never moved by money.”

The importance of all the titles until the end of the season
“To me, every title is important. For Iker, I believe it would be special to win the Champions League in Madrid. It may seem impossible, but so it was in 1987, in 2004, in 2011, in all the years when we won the seven international titles we have and that no one ever predicted.”
