“FC Porto, in all its history, is fuelled by victories”
Hélder Postiga wore the number 41 on his back when he started to catch the eye of the fans. Coming from the youth squads of the blue and whites, an efficient forward, Postiga was a promising player who became a certainty and left his mark in some of the most important moments for the club in the century, especially in season 2002/03, which ended with the victory over the UEFA Cup. Who could forget, for example, the goal scored to Lazio, in the semi-finals, under heavy rain, at Estádio das Antas?
That and other memories can be relived in the match opposing FC Porto Vintage and Real Madrid Leyendas, scheduled for March 29, at Estádio Santiago Bernabéu. Hélder Postiga is another player that already confirmed his presence and he is going there with “high expectations” and a speech that shows he still has the soul of the Dragon.
“I’m proud to wear the blue and white again, to join teammates with whom I reached great success, and, above all, to try to win, in a legendary stadium, as FC Porto, in all its history, is fuelled by victories”, the former forward stated.
Now 37 years old, with an accomplished career behind him, Hélder Postiga remembers a special match before the round at Santiago Bernabéu.
“I remember a match I played there, when José Mourinho was already coaching FC Porto, where we had a good performance, but still ended up losing, close to the final”, he remembered, talking of a match for the 2001/02 UEFA Champions League, decided with a goal scored by Solari, 83 minutes in.
“I remember that match perfectly, as the man marking me was Hierro. He doubled my age, I think, and that was the way Mourinho found to motivate me, to make me try harder”, Postiga revealed. Deco and Vítor Baía, who are also confirmed for the match on the 29th, also played in that match, held on February 19, 2002.
But Hélder Postiga stated that “what really matters” in the event in Madrid is the charity.
“Football players have to be in synch with this charity spirit, as football fuels excitement and passion, and they have the duty of making people be more charitable. I hope that the match is a great celebration and that there is great respect”, the former forward ended.
The tickets for the match cost 5 Euros and may be purchased at www.entradas.com. The revenues of the match will be used to help children that are under the scope of the projects for social inclusion of Foundation Real Madrid, spread through all continents.
