Sérgio Conceição stressed how important it is for the group to remain “emotionally strong” in matches such as matchday 18, in Funchal (2-0)

FC Porto started the second turn of the League as they finished the first: with a hard-fought, but deserved victory away, in a historically complicated stadium. Having just seen - from the stands - his players give a demonstration of quality at Estádio dos Barreiros (2-0), Sérgio Conceição talked about a "fair victory" against a team that aims at "conditioning the opponents" with high "intensity".

After "an extremely difficult match" for Fábio Veríssimo, considering the "post-League Cup time frame" and all the media pressure, the coach thinks that would always condition any "positive performance" of the refereeing team, which didn't refrain from showing red cards.

The first "victim" was Bernardo Folha, a player that "made two fouls, saw two yellow cards" and left Sérgio Conceição "clapping on the side line, in protest, as he considered the sent-off unfair". Those claps earned him a yellow card, and the words "you are having a poor match" towards the referee were enough reason for referee Veríssimo to pull out the red card.

Questioned about Eustaquio's absence, the coach revealed that the Canadian international midfielder "was hit on the knee in the first half of the League Cup final, played the second in pain” and so it is not yet certain "how long he will be out". In contrast, Pepe and Otávio were in the starting team, but are "limited with muscle issues".

"To win the Championship you have to be strong on all levels, especially emotionally", explained the man who has already won six championships (three as a player and three as coach) and who knows that "victories are fuel to win more". If "the maximum" is not given in every match, "it is difficult to win", Sérgio Conceição summed up.
