Mehdi Taremi scored the winning goal for FC Porto at the home of Estrela da Amadora (1-0)

FC Porto beat Estrela da Amadora (1-0) this Friday, at Estádio José Gomes, for matchday 5 of the League. Mehdi Taremi (29m) scored the only goal for the Dragons, who are alone at the top of the league, on condition, with 13 points, three more than Boavista and Sporting.

With eight changes in the team in comparison to the last game before the break for national duty, FC Porto started strong, but found a well-organized opponent ahead. The start of the game had several events and started with Iván Marcano picking up an injury (5m). While the Dragons were down to 10 men, João Pinheiro called for a penalty on Ronald, but reversed the decision after seeing the footage. The same Ronald, with some luck, almost beat Diogo Costa shortly afterwards (22m).

FC Porto's response didn’t take long and came in style: Pepe recovered the ball and passed it to Mehdi Taremi, who dribbled an opponent with class before shooting for goal, giving no chances to Bruno Brigid, as the ball hit the post before going in (29m). The blue and white fans were still celebrating the 1-0 and the Dragons were already aiming at the 2-0, but Fran Navarro couldn’t make it count after the play created by Gonçalo Borges (32m), who also had a great chance to increase the lead (45m). Right before João Pinheiro called for the break, Ronald forced Diogo Costa to an excellent save (45m+9).

The second half had nothing to do with the first, starting with the events and ending in the scoring opportunities for either team. The second 45 minutes were more fought than properly played. In fact, the best chance in the second half came only 90 minutes in, when Alan Varela, practically on the goal line, blocked Régis' shot, after a confusing play in the area. And so, the 1-0 was confirmed and FC Porto got the three points in the return to victories in the main national competition.
