FC Porto beat Gil Vicente 2-1 for matchday 6 of the League

FC Porto secured the three points against Gil Vicente 90 minutes in, in matchday six of the Portuguese League (2-1). Eustaquio's header led to the celebration at Estádio do Dragão and left the Dragons alone in the lead of the championship, on condition.

The first moment of the night to be highlighted at Estádio do Dragão was the tribute to Américo, eternal blue and white goalkeeper, who passed away on Friday, 90 years old. In the minute of silence, there was also applauses in recognition to what was a Dragon of excellence and idol of several generations.

Sérgio Conceição did two changes in comparison to the victory in Hamburg, against Shakhtar, and sent in Fábio Cardoso and Wendell to replace Pepe and the injured Zaidu. Motivated by the European victory, the Dragons went in on the attack, and, five minutes in, Galeno passed to André Franco, who was unable to beat goalkeeper Andrew. But the goal would come shortly after.

Eight minutes in, Wendell opened on the left wing to Galeno, who stepped into the area and crossed back to Mehdi Taremi. The Iranian striker, with all the class that is known to him, passed with his heel to Iván Jaime, who made it count and celebrated his first goal in blue and white.

FC Porto dominated the match and, as Conceição had foreseen in the press conference, tried to "break Gil Vicente’s defensive organization" and "remain balanced in the defence to not concede". 26 minutes in, André Franco celebrated the 2-0 for brief moments, but the refereeing team promptly disallowed the goal, as Taremi was offside.

Galeno was the next dragon to put Andrew's reflexes to a test with a shot aimed at the near post (34m), but the team from Barcelos was the one with the luck of the game: from a lost ball when the blue and whites were about to launch an attack, Martim Neto passed deep to Depú, who shot for goal. The shot was still deflected by Diogo Costa, who rushed out to apply pressure, but the ball ended up going in (1-1, 36m). The first half then ended, with a result against the tone of the match.

The second half started as the first one ended: FC Porto on top and looking to reach a goal that seemed to not want to come. 53 minutes in, Fran Navarro was sent in and three minutes later aimed for goal, but Andrew remained on his toes.  At the hour mark, Franco also tried to score, but the ball deflected on Eustaquio and went centimetres out of the post.

Always aiming at adding to the blue and white offensive process, Sérgio Conceição sent in Gonçalo Borges, Francisco Conceição and Pepê and the trio created another opportunity to reach the lead again, 75 minutes in. After Diogo Costa stopped a shot by Félix Correia, the number 70 crossed from the left wing, the number 10 picked up the ball on the far post and passed back to the Brazilian, who shot for goal, but Andrew managed to saved it into a corner-kick.

As tension began to rise at the stadium, the unwavering belief of the blue and white team came up. Pepê moved up on the right, passed to Gonçalo Borges and was tackled in the wing, close to the area. The fourth referee raised the board showing five minutes of stoppage time, Wendell sent the ball to the area and Stephen Eustaquio was at the end of the cross. On the near post, the midfielder headed at the far post and gave Andrew no chance. The stands jumped in celebration. The three points were coming.

Before António Nobre signalled the end of the match, Francisco Conceição tried to reach a cross coming from the right, but the three points were already secured (2-1).
