Goal scored by the fullback made all the difference in the home match against Chaves (1-0), for matchday 15 of the Portuguese League

This Friday, FC Porto beat Chaves (1-0), at Estádio do Dragão, for matchday 15th of the championship. João Mário (58m) scored the single goal of the blue and whites, who remain third in the table, with 34 points, two behind the leader, Benfica.

With seven changes in the team in comparison to the match against Leixões, for the League Cup, FC Porto went in with authority and dominance, as expected, but it was difficult to break the defensive organization of the opponent. The best opportunity in the first half, for example, only came just before the break, when Pepê saw João Correia save the goal on the touch line (45m). Unsurprisingly, the tie remained until the break.

The second half again showed a FC Porto clear superior to Chaves, but now with a big difference: the blue and white superiority could be seen in the scoreboard. In a beautiful team play of the Dragons, João Mário got the ball on the right wing, cut inside and finished with his left foot, giving with no chances to goalkeeper Rodrigo Nascimento, finally opening the scoreboard at Estádio do Dragão (58m). FC Porto threatened the 2-0 twice, with André Franco and Francisco Conceição (68m) and Chaves also had a chance at the draw in two attempts by Benny (81m and 90m+2), but the score didn’t change.
