Diogo Costa advised younger players and gave “great credit” to Francesco Farioli
Reaching 200 games for FC Porto “is not for everyone”, so Diogo Costa sees the milestone as “a reason to be proud” and explains that achieving it at home “always feels better”. In Porto Canal’s post-match interview after contributing to the 4-0 win against Casa Pia, the captain started by reminding everyone that “everything is possible with hard work, dedication and humility”, reiterated that “the focus is always on the next game” and gave “a lot of credit” to Francesco Farioli, “a coach who has surprised everyone in a very positive way” by bringing “high standards, joy and new energy” to the Club.
200 games in blue and white
“It's not for everyone. I never thought I could play so many games, no one ever expects this, let alone as captain from such an early age, but it's a reason to be proud and reaching it at home always feels better.”
Advice to younger players
“Dreaming big is always good, but going after it is always better. It takes a lot of sacrifice and giving up a lot to achieve high performance. Everything is possible with hard work, dedication and humility.”
Game by game
“Between us, we have to always demand and insist on the next game, not think about the distant future, and it is up to me, as well as the other captains, to remind our teammates of this. Our thoughts are always on the next game, we have to live day by day and in the present, seeking the best possible future.”
Praise for Francesco Farioli
“We have to give a lot of credit to coach Farioli, a coach who has surprised me very positively. I strongly believe in good daily habits, and that's what he brought: high standards, joy and renewed energy above all else. It's up to me to train to be as complete as possible, not just to make saves in front of goal, that's always been my objective. We have to give a lot of credit to our coach for everything that is happening, but humility and intensity in our work also play a part. Sacrifice must always be there.”
