Francesco Farioli regretted the “mistakes” that led to the home defeat against Vitória SC (1-3)

FC Porto failed to qualify to the final four of the League Cup after losing to Vitória SC (1-3) on Thursday at Estádio do Dragão in the last match for quarter finals of the competition. Acknowledging that this “was not the result we wanted”, Francesco Farioli stressed the importance of “turning the page quickly” and responding strongly next Sunday in Tondela (20h30). “The fans gave us the boost we needed to turn the page during the game, but especially afterwards”, added the Italian coach.

A summary of the game
“It wasn't the result we wanted. We tried everything to get back into the game when we were behind, but we made too many mistakes. I'm only sorry for some dynamics that left me speechless, but we have to turn the page and think about Sunday's game. We had our big chances and our big moments, especially in the second half, but that's the way it is and we have to turn the page quickly. In my opinion, the first half was very good and we should have gone into the break with the lead, but we have to accept the result, even though we could have done more.”

FC Porto and the League Cup
“I wasn't here in previous years. We tried everything to win the game, but it wasn't enough.”

The fans' affection during and after the game
“The fans gave us the boost we needed to turn the page during the game, but especially afterwards. We've lost two games so far and in both we had penalties against us, that's the reality. The fans' support after the final whistle was the answer to everything, but we have to prove that we'll have the right reaction in the next game.”

Gabri Veiga only lasted until half-time
“I asked him several times how he was and he told me he was fine, but when he cooled down at half-time, he couldn't continue. Unfortunately, we've paid a very high price for these collisions, but they're part of football and there's nothing we can do about them. Football is a contact sport and sometimes injuries occur from these collisions.”

Luuk de Jong's injury the day before
“We came into this game with some difficulties and some bad news in recent days, but I have no regrets other than the mistakes we made, which happen in football. Luuk is a champion and knows what he has to do to get back with us and help the team.”
