Samu dedicated the 1-0 win against CD Tondela to Luuk de Jong, a “very important” player for the whole team
Back to scoring in the league, Samu admitted that “the first half was complicated” because the team was not “finding spaces well”, but Francesco Farioli “warned them about what he wanted in the dressing room” and the team returned to the pitch “as it should be” on one of the “fields where championships are decided”.
Saddened by the “hard blow” that was Luuk de Jong's injury, a “very important” member of the squad who “teaches a lot” to the Spanish international and Deniz Gül, the striker was aware that FC Porto is “in a privileged position”, but reminded everyone that “championships are not won in December”: “We are making our way and we have to continue like this so that we reach the end of the season where we want to be”.
From the dressing room to victory
“The first half was complicated, we weren't finding the spaces well, but the manager alerted us to what he wanted in the dressing room, we came back as we should and quickly settled the game.”
The difficulties of playing away from the Dragão
“We know that championships are decided on these pitches. It's very difficult to play here, and we have to play very well because these teams are very strong at home. I'm happy with the victory.”
Luuk de Jong's injury
“It was a big blow for the whole team. We found out before Thursday's game and, as his teammate, I spend a lot of time with him. He teaches us a lot, especially me and Deniz Gül. We miss him a lot because he's very important to us.”
A long way to go
“We know we're in a privileged position, but championships aren't won in December. We're making our way and we have to keep it up so that we finish the season where we want to be.”
