“Centre-back returns to the club he represented in 2004/05.

Thiago Silva joins FC Porto as a new signing. The legendary Brazilian centre-back returns to Invicta after ending his spell at Fluminense, where he played the last two seasons.

He thus returns to a club he represented in the 2004/05 season, when he featured only for FC Porto B. In many ways, this move marks the closing of a perfect circle, as he comes back to a place he already knows, in search of what was missing back then: glory with the first team.

Thiago Silva is a name that needs no introduction. At 41, he boasts a career that speaks for itself, having represented, among others, clubs such as AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

At all of them he made more than 100 appearances.
At all of them he was a leading figure.
At all of them he won titles.

He arrives at FC Porto with 31 trophies won throughout his career: 1 UEFA Champions League (at the Estádio do Dragão!), 1 FIFA Club World Cup, 1 UEFA Super Cup, 7 French league titles, 1 Italian league title, 1 Copa do Brasil, 5 French Cups, 6 French League Cups, 5 French Super Cups and 1 Italian Super Cup. To these he adds the Copa América and the FIFA Confederations Cup won with the Brazilian national team.

Thiago Silva was also captain of the Seleção and has so far earned 113 international caps.

Three times named to the FIFA Team of the Year (2013, 2014 and 2015), he was voted Best Player of the 2021 Club World Cup and, more recently, was nominated for FIFA’s The Best award in the Defender of the Year category, crowning a very positive season at Fluminense, in which he made 46 appearances.

In fact, since 2006 he has played at least 34 matches in every season, with a high of 58 in 2024, when he split his time between Chelsea and Fluminense.

He signs for FC Porto until the end of the season, with an option for a further year. He joins on a free transfer, given his status as a free agent, with no intermediary commission applied.
