William Gomes scored “for the first time on his birthday” and sealed the 3-0 win against Moreirense FC

“Privileged” and feeling “overwhelmed with emotion” for “scoring for the first time on his birthday”, William Gomes sent “a hug to Thiago Silva, who is going through a difficult and delicate time”, and revealed in Porto Canal’s post-match interview that his signature play with which he sealed the 3-0 victory over Moreirense FC “is a play I practise a lot”, which “is helping a great deal”.

Three points for Thiago Silva
“Firstly, I wanted to send a hug to Thiago, who is going through a difficult and delicate time. This victory was for him. He always tells us we have to make the most of it as if there were no tomorrow; I think we did that very well today and managed to do what the coach had asked of us. It was a good victory for us.”

The signature play
“It’s a shot I practise a lot. After training, Dave Vos, Felipe Sánchez and André Castro help me a lot with it. I repeat that move a lot and I think it’s helping me a great deal.”

An even more special birthday
“It’s the first time I’ve scored on my birthday; I feel privileged and it’s a huge thrill. I spoke a lot with my dad this morning and he told me to stay focused because, even though it’s my birthday, I had a match and I had to do the right things to reap the rewards. I dedicate this goal to my parents.”
