Brahimi, Éder Militão and Soares scored in the blue and white victory over Belenenses, 3-0, for matchday 19 of Liga NOS
FC Porto remains strong in the lead of Liga NOS, after beating Belenenses (3-0), at Estádio do Dragão, for matchday 19 of the competition. Brahimi (5m), Éder Militão (29m), and Soares (71m) were the scorers of the blue and white goals, with the Dragons now reaching 49 points, five more than Benfica, second.
Returning home over three weeks later, FC Porto soon showed their intentions, despite the adverse weather conditions and a pitch punished by the rain during the entire day. Five minutes in, the first celebration of the night: Corona recovered the ball close to the area and passed it to Brahimi, for his 50th goal as a Dragon. It would be hard to ask for a better start.
Belenenses tried to react and was close to tying the match with Licá, but the forward, receiving the pass from Eduardo, shot outside the post of the goal defended by Casillas (18m). In the first-half, this was the only dangerous play from the visitors, who were helpless to stop the header from Éder Militão, after a perfect cross from Alex Telles (29m). Corona aimed for the third (42m), but the score remained 2-0 until the break.
The second-half wasn’t as exciting as the first, but the goal defended by Muriel remained a hot-spot in the match. In one of the many blue and white attacks, Óliver faced the Brazilian goalkeeper, but the shot went straight into his hands (65m). As if trying to redeem himself, the same Óliver passed to Soares for the 3-0: a good cross from the Spanish ended with a header from the number 29 (71m). Mission accomplished before a difficult match in Guimarães.
