FC Porto beat Tottenham (2-0), in Olival, for the Round of 16 of the competition
The blue and white Under19 team is in the quarter finals of the UEFA Youth League, after beating Tottenham at home (2-0), this Wednesday, for the Round of 16. Ángel Yesid (52m) and Romário Baró (57m) scored for the Dragons.
The blue and whites were considerably better than the opponent throughout the first match and deserved to reach the break in the lead, but one of the assistant referees of Halil Umut Meler saw an off-side and disallowed the goal scored by Fábio Silva, after a corner-kick taken by Fábio Vieira (6m). The Dragons had more ball possession, more shots, and even scored a perfectly legal goal, but the tie continued until halftime.
The best was saved for the second-half. After the break, Romário Baró passed to Ángel Yesid and the Colombian forward did the rest, scoring a beautiful goal with his left foot (52m). The blue and white superiority was more and more obvious and the opportunities kept coming. In one of them, Fábio Silva recovered the ball outside the opposing area and passed to Romário Baró, who just pushed it in for the second goal (57m). Everything was decided in a matter of five minutes.
“I am pleased with the players. The match against Sporting demanded a lot from us and we faced a strong team today, but we were better the entire match. My players were fantastic. Their attitude was determinant for our victory. Congratulations to everyone, as they gave everything for the team. Anyone reaching this stage must aspire to win the competition”, coach Mário Silva stated, after the end of the match, talking to Porto Canal.
