FC Porto is alone in the lead of Group A of the League Cup after beating Chaves away, 2-0, in matchday 2, with two goals scored by from Danny Namaso (55m and 59m). With one match left to play, FC Porto has four points, two more than Mafra and Vizela and one more than Chaves.

The first minutes weren’t exactly spectacular, but the match started to open as the clock moved forward, with FC Porto always on top, but Chaves never stopped looking for Cláudio Ramos’ goal. After the first quarter of an hour, Pepê forced goalkeeper Paulo Vitor to a great save, and, right after that, neither the referee nor the VAR saw the foul by Sandro Cruz on João Mário in the area, which should have meant a penalty for the Dragons (19m).

After that, Wendell took the corner-kick and Marko Grujic jumped high to force Paulo Vitor to another good save. On the spare ball, Toni Martínez’s bicycle kick went over the bar. The attacking trend of the national champions was gaining momentum and ended in another play that should have ended in a penalty, as João Queirós handed a cross from Galeno (25m). The second half showed again a FC Porto clearly better than Chaves, with the big difference that, this time, it became on the scoreboard as well: in less than five minutes, Danny Namaso scored twice, thanks to the assists from João Mário and Toni Martínez, and gave an important advantage to the Dragons in Trás-os-Montes (55m and 59m). The English forward, clearly the star of the evening, was close to a hat-trick when he hit the post in a curved shot from the edge of the area (76m). Shortly after, in another blue and white attack, Toni Martínez almost made it 3-0 (80m), but the scoreboard would not change until the final whistle.
