Diogo Costa was the team's spokesman after the home defeat to Benfica (4-1)
FC Porto lost 4-1 to Benfica at Estádio do Dragão, on Sunday, for matchday 28 of the Portuguese league. After the classic, Diogo Costa said that “we need to improve without the ball” and that the blue and whites have to “know how to defend better” in matches of this magnitude, so we have to “take the blame and work”. “We have to apologise to our fans, who have given us a very good energy since yesterday. I thank and apologise to all the fans for today”, the goalkeeper and captain added.
A resume of the game
“The first goal changed everything we had prepared. We've improved a lot with the ball, but we need to improve without it. Against teams of this quality, we have to know how to defend better, accept our mistakes and work hard. Right now, we have to keep quiet, take the blame and work.”
The second half
“We couldn't get into the game and have the ball like we did in the first half. After the second goal, we played more with our hearts than our heads. We have to take responsibility and keep working quietly.”
Two defeats to Benfica in the season
“It's very difficult. Internally, it's hard to lose these games, even more so with this result. We have to apologise to our fans, who have given us a very good energy since yesterday. I thank and apologise to all the fans for today.”
The numbers for the title
“It gets difficult, but, in this house, I've always been taught to believe until the end.”
