FC Porto beat CD Nacional (3-0) on matchday 34 of the championship
FC Porto beat CD Nacional 3-0 at home and ended the 2024/25 edition of the Portuguese League in the third place with 71 points, behind Sporting (82) and Benfica (80) and ahead of SC Braga (66). Francisco Moura, Samu and Rodrigo Mora each scored a goal and Diogo Costa also saved his 12th penalty in his senior career in regular time.
Martín Anselmi sent in Martim Fernandes and Pepê into the positions that were taken by Nehuén Pérez and Eustáquio at Estádio do Bessa and the fans who filled the stands at Estádio do Dragão only had to wait 44 seconds for the first goal, a header from Francisco Moura at the far post after a good cross by the number 52 (1-0).
Faced with the disadvantage, the team from Madeira started to attack and benefited from a penalty for a foul by Fábio Vieira on João Aurélio. Called to the penalty spot and with a specialist in front of him, Joel Tagueau saw Diogo Costa stop the penalty and the second attempt at the subsequent corner-kick.
Seven minutes later, 19 minutes in, Fábio Vieira took a free-kick excellently, but Iván Marcano missed the target by just a few centimetres, and, until half time, Diogo Costa shone again - this time with a fantastic save to keep a clean sheet on the way to the break.
Rodrigo Mora had the first dangerous play of the second half, a shot with his left foot from the edge of the area that was just wide of the post, and it was with Tomás Pérez in place of Pepê that Fábio Vieira hit the crossbar after João Mário's play on the right wing.
Soon after, 66 minutes in, Zé Vítor was shown a second yellow card for a foul in the box on Samu, who converted the penalty to double the lead (2-0). Gonçalo Borges and William Gomes replaced João Mário and Fábio Vieira, Rodrigo Mora scored his seventh goal in the last nine games (3-0) and gave way to Danny Namaso, who went in together with André Franco in the final moments of a game that had long been decided.
