William Gomes paved the way for victory over FC Famalicão (4-1) in the Round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup

FC Porto secured their place in the Quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup, where they will face Benfica at home, after beating FC Famalicão (4-1) on Thursday, at Estádio do Dragão in the Round of 16 of the competition. William Gomes scored the first goal of the night, but preferred to give credit to Victor Froholdt for that play, as the Danish midfielder was “strong under pressure”. Happy to have given “a Christmas present to the fans”, the number 7 also expressed his wishes for 2026: “I want to keep winning and end the championship with the title”.

The match and the early goal
“It was a difficult match, as we knew it would be, but we prepared well. Victor [Froholdt] was strong under pressure, the ball fell to me and, luckily, I managed to finish well.”

The last match at Estádio do Dragão before Christmas
“I think it was a Christmas present for the fans.”

Benfica is the opponent in the Quarter-finals
“It will be a great game, but there are still other games before that. We have to keep this mentality and always think game by game.”

Wishes for 2026
“I want to keep winning and end the championship with the title.”
