William Gomes scored FC Porto’s goal in the 1-1 tie between FC Porto and Nottingham Forest

FC Porto tied with Nottingham Forest in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals (1-1) and William Gomes regretted that the match “didn’t go as expected”, but pointed out that the round “is still at half time and next week there’s more” to come in the clash against the English side. “We’re very confident in the second leg, we’re all prepared and convinced that we can go there, win and go through,” assured the scorer of the night’s first goal.

The goal scored
“I’m happy to have scored another goal. I work hard for these moments. We knew it was going to be a difficult game, but we prepared very well and, unfortunately, we didn’t come away with the win. We’re very confident about the second leg, we’re ready and convinced that we can go there, win and go through. Today didn’t go as we’d hoped, but we’re still at half time and there’s more to come next week.”

Problems with finishing?
“It’s not a problem with finishing. There are nights when we try, try and try and just can’t score. There are nights when we do and others when we don’t, but we always prepare ourselves to be successful in the end.”

The own goal
“These things happen in football. We were prepared, but naturally, after the own goal, we ended up losing momentum. Even so, we remained determined; we managed to get back into the game, put in more energy and do what we’d prepared for. Unfortunately, we could only manage a draw.”

Goalscoring target
“I don’t think about it too much. I work hard every day. A goal is the result of that hard work, and whether I score or not, the team comes first. I don’t have a target. I work day by day, take it game by game, and, if I do things right, the goals will come at the right time.”
